Working at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia is an exciting experience. I've been here for 2 and 1/2 years and I can honestly say that there's never a boring day in the office. There is always something going on -- whether it's
an event hosted by Martha in the offices or relaunching a blog. And sometimes I get caught in all several projects at once and feel burnt out. And I KNOW that you know what I'm talking about.
On those days when you want to pull your hair out or cry because you feel so overwhelmed, it's important to take a step back and lean on your fellow sisters whenever you can. For example, tomorrow our fellow Dreamers
Taryn Sisco is coming to NYC to see a taping of The Martha Stewart Show. I won't be in the offices tomorrow but I promised Taryn that I would have someone give her and her family an office tour.
So here I am, working late tonight to tie up loose ends before I go on vacation and I completely forgot about arranging an office tour for Taryn tomorrow!!!! I looked around the office at 7 pm and felt helpless! What can I do now? It's too late to arrange a tour for Taryn, right? I was wrong. I ended up calling my dear friend and trusted colleague Tiffany Sun on her cell phone and asked her if she could take Taryn on a tour tomorrow. She gladly accepted! It's such a nice feeling when you can REALLY rely on someone else when you need a helping hand and I hope you feel that way about some of the members on this site.
There are exciting things going on for Dreamers in the months to come -- we're going to revamp the site and streamline things so there's less clutter on here and more clarity. We're going to create an about page, we're going to clean up message boards and groups and more importantly we're going to to provide you with more insight and inspiration about your dreams and careers. Of course, I can't do this all by myself -- I have some colleagues who are going to roll up their sleeves with me and of course, I have you, the awesome members of this site!
Stay tuned and keep your head up! I leave you with a photo of two of my favorite colleagues and I: From left to right: Naomi Kim, online editor for all of Martha's TV shows, me, and Tiffany Sun, who's the online editor for holidays and crafts!
Best, etc.
Alexis
