Working at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia is an exciting experience. I've been here for 2 and 1/2 years and I can honestly say that there's never a boring day in the office. There is always something going on -- whether it's an event hosted by Martha in the offices or relaunching a blog. And sometimes I get caught in all several projects at once and feel burnt out. And I KNOW that you know what I'm talking about.

On those days when you want to pull your hair out or cry because you feel so overwhelmed, it's important to take a step back and lean on your fellow sisters whenever you can. For example, tomorrow our fellow Dreamers Taryn Sisco is coming to NYC to see a taping of The Martha Stewart Show. I won't be in the offices tomorrow but I promised Taryn that I would have someone give her and her family an office tour.

So here I am, working late tonight to tie up loose ends before I go on vacation and I completely forgot about arranging an office tour for Taryn tomorrow!!!! I looked around the office at 7 pm and felt helpless! What can I do now? It's too late to arrange a tour for Taryn, right? I was wrong. I ended up calling my dear friend and trusted colleague Tiffany Sun on her cell phone and asked her if she could take Taryn on a tour tomorrow. She gladly accepted! It's such a nice feeling when you can REALLY rely on someone else when you need a helping hand and I hope you feel that way about some of the members on this site.

There are exciting things going on for Dreamers in the months to come -- we're going to revamp the site and streamline things so there's less clutter on here and more clarity. We're going to create an about page, we're going to clean up message boards and groups and more importantly we're going to to provide you with more insight and inspiration about your dreams and careers. Of course, I can't do this all by myself -- I have some colleagues who are going to roll up their sleeves with me and of course, I have you, the awesome members of this site!

Stay tuned and keep your head up! I leave you with a photo of two of my favorite colleagues and I: From left to right: Naomi Kim, online editor for all of Martha's TV shows, me, and Tiffany Sun, who's the online editor for holidays and crafts!

Best, etc.

Alexis

Isn't it amazing how we can overbook and over extend ourselves? Best advice I ever got was from a fascinating woman who was 96 years old. I rented a house next to hers in my mid 20's. She was by herself and one day she invited me over for tea. She always dressed nicely and wore pearls each day. She outlived her entire family. She used to play the piano at the theater when there was no sound. Amazing woman. Her medicine cabinet consisted of all natural herbs and she seemed to know what to do for just about everything. Her advice was break down the tasks to three each day. Celebrate in your accomplishments and it is a strength to ask for help not a weakness. She told me a story about a boy who asked his dad if he thought he could move a boulder 5 times larger than the 5 year old. His father said yes I think if you used all your strength you could! The boy tried, red in the face, trying with all his might... frustrated..he yelled You're wrong dad! I can't do it! His Dad said But you didn't use all your strength. The boy replied You saw Dad, yes I did! The father smiled and said No son, you didn't ask me for my help. Together they moved the rock. My dear friend Vera explained that asking for help is a strength. Marthastewart Living as the resources to help entrepeneurs with the marketing their business. (i.e., radio, print, website) this is what I believe everyone is looking for. It is not the best invention that wins... it is the best marketed one. In the current economic situation it is not easy. Advertising is costly and many companies starting out have a great deal invested in products and materials. It sure would be nice to have a feature company each month. Suggestion on the website.... I sure would like to know how to get white baseball pants white! The red clay out at ballparks get ground in so deep they won't come clean. Mom's have tried everything. Any ideas? Martha ---any suggestions for growing spinach in El Paso? My sister in law picks on me because I have a green thumb but can't seem to master spinach ;-) Keep up the great work to all at Martha Stewart Living. Hope you had a great (well deserved) vacation.
