Comment by Elizabeth Holliday on August 25, 2011 at 6:43pm Hi everyone! Well, all of our best laid plans can be undone by the whims of 4 year olds, right? My daughter's birthday party is scheduled for September 10th and was to be a hot pink superhero party. Invites were going out Monday.
She just came in (as I was making her invites) and BEGGED for a bumble bee party. ??? Not sure where that came from, but I'm sure I can whip something up on short notice. I'm leaning towards honeycombs and a slightly more modern edge (you can see earlier ideas I did in this inspiration blog).
So, party people, what bumblebee goodies do you have for me to look at? I'm doing the invites myself and making some bumblebee tees for the kids to wear during the party, as shown in the blog. I need ideas for favors, favor bags, food, cake pops, cupcake toppers, healthy food snacks, etc. Probably a cute black tutu for the birthday girl, too. Can anyone make a beehive piñata? Maybe bee headbands or barrettes?
I'm not asking for freebies, just good vendor sources and ideas. All items will be photographed and blogged about, of course. It's a small party - only 10 or 11 girls.
I can't wait to hear your ideas. You can email me, too at elizabeth@swankypress.com.

Comment by Keisha Sibert on August 25, 2011 at 1:35pm Tamar - I completely understand. I typically work on my designs in between downtown during the day....and then after my little ones are in bed. I'm a night owl and will usually work at home from 10-2 am - it's crazy - but that just works for me. On the weekends, I sneak away when I can and do photos and work on cupcakes - which my daughter loves to help out with.
If I have an actual event to plan- I have to space everything out, do things in the car, just fit in time where I can.

That Egyptian party sounds fun!
Comment by Nicole Wills on August 25, 2011 at 12:58pm Thanks for the kind words, everyone! Yesterday got away from me, but I posted my blog post on the Secret Garden party today. Tomorrow starts a string of really fun tutorials, including one for that paper flower backdrop!
In other fun party-planning news, I'm SO excited about the two I'm working on. A gnome themed party (classic gnomes, like the classic Wil Huygen book). That one's going to be up in the mountains of AZ, so a different setting than most of my parties down here in the Phoenix area.
And my daughter has chosen an Egyptology/Archaeology party for her 8th birthday. Yes!!! I don't think I've ever been more excited about a theme. I'm going totally old-school, Howard Carter, khakis and pith helmets. Mock archaeological digs and paper making. Hieroglyphics stamps. Not only is this going to be a lot of fun, but it's going to be educational.
If anyone has any grand ideas on either of those themes, I'd love to brainstorm!
Comment by Elizabeth | Party In Style on August 25, 2011 at 12:41pm @Elizabeth - I'll send you an email as soon as I get a chance (full time job crazyness plus trying to catch up on my biz orders...) Love your new site btw, and I just paid some good $$$ to have my wordpress blog re-designed. I think there's a huge market since .org gives you total freedom (sorta) when it comes to design and once people want to expand their sites they realized that wordpress.com or blogger isn't the best way to do it.
Comment by Tamar A {theDressedUpTable} on August 25, 2011 at 12:40pm @ Elizabeth, I really like both of the sites...I was just reading the article on SEO, my husband is such a tech geek, hes in the family business and hes the younger generation so he handles all that stuff for them. But he was telling me about it not too long ago, and I was kind of like huh!? hehe But that article is pretty informative and good to know about!
I will take a look into Wordpress....I know a lot of people also use blogger...
Comment by Elizabeth Holliday on August 25, 2011 at 12:27pm @tamar - I love blogging! And it increased my business substantially when I started my first blog.
My party blog (www.simplyswanky.com) was built by Harvest Creative and they did a fabulous job. For my next venture, though, I decided to build my own. You can see it at www.ShopGirlMBA.com. I did all the graphics and coding on that one myself, and it was SOOO fun to learn something new. I'm actually thinking of branching out and doing wordpress sites for hire (hosted on your own domain, not wordpress.com). I'm not sure there is a huge market, but I love the idea of it! I'd love input about the look/feel of the new blog I built if anyone wants to check it out...
