It's not owned by some huge site. I was able to buy Simply Swanky, Swanky Stationery, and a few others just by asking the domain owner. You'll have to pay a bit more (I've paid about $50 to $200) depending on the name, but it's a way to solve the problem.

I feel like the web people that I've talked to have all discouraged me from using a dash. They tell me that people will be confused by it. And since the other business is active and selling shirts, I'm feeling sort of overwhelmed by it all. I go through this same exercise in trying to make a decision about my domain every year and then I don't follow through. Ack. ;)

Greysondesign.com was taken and wasnt gonna be open for a while so i went with greyson-design.com. Have you thought about putting a hyphen in between swish-design? Or taking something besides .com but .net or .org? Hope i could help. Hang in there and dont give up!

When I opened my Etsy shop when my first child was born, I never thought I'd actually be able to "do something" with my shop. Well, here I am several years later and am struggling to find a domain name that isn't taken. The obvious choice (swishdesigns.com) is taken and right now I have the following two ideas that I'm tossing around: SwishPrintables or DesignsbySwish. I honestly don't love either. The other option that I'm looking at is PartiesbySwish. I've also toyed with changing the name of my Etsy shop and Facebook page but I'm not sure I want to do that either. What do you all think? I feel like this has been consuming me for the last year (or more) and I end up getting frustrated and not doing anything. My shop is pretty busy - I'm having the best year in terms of sales and exposure so I'd love to keep that momentum going. Thanks so much! I really value your opinions and expertise.
